Short But Sweet Three

Close up of a sad boy's face

I am sorry that, too often, the world is a confusing and frightening place.

I am sorry that a word out of place can make you sob till you shake.

I am sorry that every day, a million tiny things break your heart.

I am sorry that sometimes, the world will not understand why something it thinks is insignificant makes you rant and wail.

I am sorry that I could not work out what I had said wrong, that you begged me to ‘say it properly’, that whichever desperate sentence I tried was the wrong one.

But I am grateful that I could hold you tight, until you calmed.

I am grateful that I learn more about you every day.

I am grateful that, together, we will always make it alright, always wait out the storm.

And I am grateful for every perfect second that you have been, and will be, in my life.

  1. This is lovely, I can so much identify, with this line in particular “I am sorry that I could not work out what I had said wrong, that you begged me to ‘say it properly’, that whichever desperate sentence I tried was the wrong one”

  2. Awww what a touching post. That photo is so emotional & perfect for your words. Your sharing & other parents sharing their stories about children with Autism will raise awareness & the world will understand soon. It must be really tough. Thanks so much for sharing with #BloggerClubUK
